20 kW Net Metering
Rocklyn
Interesting Fact: An extra row of panels was added on the wall via an awning to maximize solar production.
Project Details: The client considered installing both a MicroFIT and a net metered system. After Blackline Power performed a detailed analysis of their electricity usage and examined all the site-specific factors, they decided that net metering was their best solution as it offered a higher rate of return long-term. Note that the MicroFIT Program (where you sell all the solar power produced) ended in 2018.

10 kW Net Metering
Ravenna
Interesting Fact: This is a standing seam steel roof. Many people are under the impression that it is not optimal for solar and often inquire about using thin film solar panels in between the seams. While thin film technology has recently been in the media for becoming increasingly efficient and decreasing in price, the bottom line is that it is still more expensive, less efficient, requires a much larger installation area, has a lower warranty, and is less suitable to cold climates. Standing seam is one of the best roof types for solar; we simply attach to the ribs.
Project Details: The client contacted us in the early construction phase of their new addition to ensure that all bases were covered for a successful solar installation. The client also incorporated a passive solar design element. Take note of all of the windows in this south-facing addition that enable the building to collect and store radiant solar energy as heat in the winter. In contrast, the generous overhang and other interior design elements reduce heat build-up in the summer.

7.6 kW Zero Export
Kincardine
Interesting Fact: All black solar panels with black frames and back sheets were used in this installation to make the system look sleeker and less obtrusive.
Project Details: The client would like to add a high voltage battery storage unit in the near future so opted for a StorEdge inverter with enhanced monitoring that shows in real-time how much solar is being produced versus how much power is being consumed by the house. This single inverter solution for solar PV production, battery storage and both grid-tied and battery back-up applications is one of the best on the residential market.

7.7 kW Net Metering
Wiarton
Interesting Fact: The racking was firmly attached with ground screws versus helical piers or a poured concrete foundation. Ground screws are more environmentally friendly and substantially reduce the mess of an excavation.
Project Details: The clients are retired and looking for ways to control expenses in the long-term. They want to live on their property as long as possible. They preferred a ground mount installation over a rooftop because it can easily be cleaned off in the winter and they didn’t want to worry about having it removed from their house for future re-roofing.

10 kW MicroFIT and R&R
Owen Sound
Interesting Fact: R&Rs are “removals and re-installations” and we perform quite a few of them when clients require re-roofing.
Project Details: The client originally hired us in 2015 to install a MicroFIT solar system on their asphalt house roof. They later added on to the house and replaced all of the asphalt with steel. As the new addition had better solar radiance, Blackline moved and re-installed the system on the new surface.
