It’s All About the Future
Every year, the number of solar inverters with integrated electric vehicle chargers that we sell increases. About 40% of these clients don’t yet have an electric vehicle, but they understand the value of having a charger for friends and family, their future car, and for real estate value. For a reasonable cost, clients can upgrade their solar system to include a charger. SolarEdge, our preferred residential inverter manufacturer, developed the world’s first ev charging inverter that allows owners to use their solar system to charge their car. The unit is available in several sizes and can charge vehicles up to 2.5 times faster than a standard Level 1 charger. It is also less expensive to install a charger in combination with a solar system versus as a separate stand-alone unit later. An additional dedicated circuit breaker is not needed, saving space and eliminating a potential service panel upgrade.
Full Visibility & Control
The beauty of all SolarEdge products is displayed in their monitoring platforms. From a computer, tablet or smart phone, owners can track their charging status, control vehicle charging, and set charging schedules. In addition, they can have full visibility of both their solar production and household energy usage – in real time.
Dedicated to Change
In the 2019 budget, Canada set a target for all new car sales to be fully electric by 2040, with sales goals of 10% by 2025 and 30% by 2030. To help achieve these targets, the government offered up to $5,000 off the price of buying new electric and hybrid passenger vehicles. Ottawa funded the program with $300 million, on a first-come, first-served basis, over the next three years. As of mid-January 2020, more than $134 million in rebates had already been issued to 33,000 Canadians. At this rate of uptake, the funds could be entirely gone before the end of this year!
