Agricultural Projects

Solar produces consistent yields for farming operations.

PROJECT TYPE:

10 kW MicroFIT

LOCATION:

Annan

Interesting Fact:  Most agricultural barn rooftops are perfect for solar. They have steel roofing, few roof impediments, little to no shade, and lots of space.

Project Details: Like many agricultural clients, this equestrian centre owner was planning for the future and invested in solar to secure a minimum of 20 years of additional revenue for his operation. When the MicroFIT contract expires, the system should still generate well for another 10-20 years and the electricity produced will be able to be used directly on site.

Agricultural Project
PROJECT TYPE:

20 kW Net Metering & Zero Export

LOCATION:

Meaford

Interesting Fact:  Many farming operations traditionally have high electricity needs and the current environmental trend is towards even more electrification. This client decided to begin with a 20 kW system and will closely monitor their energy generation and usage before determining if and when they will add on more solar.

Project Details: This is a typical Grey County mixed-product farm that has been worked by three generations of extended family. Electricity needs include two dwellings, poultry housing and refrigeration/freezing of products through the off-season.

PROJECT TYPE:

10 kW Net Metering

LOCATION:

Elsinore

Interesting Fact:   Automated dairy barns have consistently high electricity usage on both a daily and annual basis which complements solar net metering perfectly. Blackline Power designs systems that will produce more power than is needed during the summer to accumulate credits for night-time and winter use.

Project Details: This client had been interested in solar for years but grid capacity was not available in his area. Blackline regularly monitors capacity in Grey-Bruce and informed the client as soon as the grid opened up for his project. We quickly secured his capacity and installed the system shortly thereafter. The client plans to add onto his project in the future to compensate for more of his usage.

80 kW MicroFIT Portfolio, Simcoe (
PROJECT TYPE:

80 kW MicroFIT Portfolio

LOCATION:

Simcoe

Interesting Fact:  Most tracker installations are built on the ground (see adjacent picture) and then hoisted into place with a crane. Blackline Power only installs Deger Energie trackers as they have patented technology that results in 25-40% more energy production than fixed systems.

Project Details: Blackline Power was approached by the client to investigate the development of multiple MicroFITS on their farm properties. Solar assessments and consulting is one of our core services. Based on a multitude of factors, we arrived at a final recommendation of solar installations at eight properties which we built in two phases.

10 kW MicroFIT, 2 Contract Transfers, Dobbington
PROJECT TYPE:

10 kW MicroFIT, 2 Contract Transfers

LOCATION:

Dobbington

Interesting Fact:  MicroFIT contracts can be transferred to new property owners, but a professional should be hired to ensure the process goes smoothly and the contract isn’t jeopardized.

Project Details: Agricultural properties (especially those used for cash crops) can change ownership frequently. As well as initially installing the solar system, Blackline Power has handled two contract transfers for this site over the past six years. This involves multiple sets of paperwork with both the utility (in this case, Hydro One) and IESO. The process can be a seamless transition but it can take a few months and we highly recommend contacting us before the property changes title.

PROJECT TYPE:

100 kW FIT

LOCATION:

Meaford

Interesting Fact:  While this property is owned by the founder of one of Canada’s largest solar suppliers, the building operates as an equestrian centre so we’ve included it with both our commercial and agricultural projects.

Project Details: In 2010, Blackline Power installed one of the first large solar FIT projects in Ontario. This system will generate enough electricity to power 30 homes for 40 years carbon-free and it is a well known landmark on the highway between Owen Sound and Meaford.
