About Us

Blackline Power is a member of the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) and the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA) and owner Rob Black is a NABCEP Certified Solar Installation Professional committed to ongoing training and education in the renewable energy sector. We are a Canadian-owned renewable energy company based in Owen Sound. Our incorporated parent company has been in business for 18 years and the Blackline Power division was formed in 2010. We are a full service provider. We consult with you to determine the best solutions for your needs and goals, we design optimal systems, and we install, monitor and manage your entire project.

Our strengths lie in education/outreach, project management and construction. Our small administrative staff means consistent and reliable communication throughout the project’s lifecycle, and primarily with company principals. We have solid engineering, financing and supply partners, and our core construction team results in tightly managed onsite services with quality and continuity across projects.

Project size and type are irrelevant to us. Our mandate is to promote energy efficiency and install as much renewable energy as possible to move towards a greener future.

Project Approach & Owner Expertise
Most solar companies can easily install a grid-connected solar PV system – and have done several, perhaps hundreds. Furthermore, pricing should be fairly standard and most good equipment carries similar warranties. What distinguishes a reputable, professional company is the following:

• Attention to detail throughout the life of the project (pre-, during and post-installation). Our clients will confirm that we are always available when any question or issue arises and Blackline Power has invested in a leading CRM software program that organizes and stores client data and records off-site.

• Extensive experience dealing with the OPA/IESO, Hydro One and other electricity providers on the intricacies of the Net Metering and Green Energy Act.

• On-going education and training, substantial and current industry knowledge on equipment, best practice procedures and regulations.

• Access to a wide supplier network.

• Openness to adapt and change project requirements if a better solution exists.

• A willingness and desire to work in the best interests of the client and provide educational opportunities whenever called upon.

Owner Rob Black
Rob has advanced solar PV training from world-renowned Solar Energy International in Colorado and is one of ~25 NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certified solar installers in Canada and one of only 14 in Ontario. He has an Environmental Studies degree from the University of Waterloo and moved on from teaching high school to pursue his passion for renewable energy by founding Blackline Power. Education and raising public awareness about the multiple benefits of solar are key company mandates. Rob strives to live and work on a better planet where we all believe we can make a difference. He splits his time between the office and the field and can often be found navigating rooftops and conversing on-site with clients.

Owner Joy Black
Joy has been in project management for over 20 years, primarily for not-for-profit organizations, and has a masters degree in Environmental Planning from the University of Waterloo. Her passion for wildlife and the environment was sparked in university when she lived in Algonquin Park for two years tracking and researching wolves. Now she chases the sun on behalf of Blackline Power clients and manages the administrative details of their solar agreements.
